Abstract

As a firefighter, having high muscle strength and a normal BMI is crucial to meet job demands and reduce the risk of injury. To determine differences in hamstring muscle strength based on BMI category in firefighters. A cross-sectional study was used. Subjects consisted of 390 male firefighters with the following characteristics age 33.30 ± 7.13 years, body mass 72.68 ± 12.84 kg, height 170.04 ± 5.05 cm, BMI 25.10 ± 4.14 kg/m2. Body composition test using InBody 270 and height test using CAMRY HT701, hamstring muscle strength test using NordBord VALD. Analysis with SPSS software version 27. The differences between groups that have the densest significant value in the right hamstring muscle strength of the BMI categories underweight-normal, underweight-overweight, underweight-obese I, underweight-obese II, normal-obese I, normal-obese II, overweight-obese I, overweight-obese II, and obesity I-obese II produce p-value < 0.001. The left hamstring muscle strength of the BMI category underweight-normal p-value 0.016, normal-overweight p-value 0.027, overweight-obese I p-value 0.003, obesity I-obese II p-value 0.001, underweight-overweight, underweight-obese I, underweight-obese II, normal-obese I, normal-obese II, and overweight-obese II produce p-value < 0.001. Overall differences also had significant values in the strength of the right and left hamstring muscles, each producing a p-value < 0.001. Conclusion: There were significant differences in the strength of the right and left hamstring muscles between several BMI groups, except for the strength of the right hamstring muscle between normal and overweight BMI. Further research is needed to determine the difference based on hamstring muscle strength per body mass.
