Badminton involves repetitive high-velocity overhead strokes that place considerable stress on the shoulder complex, increasing the risk of dysfunction and injury. This risk is further elevated in athletes with scapular dyskinesis, which may impair neuromuscular control and functional performance. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of kinesiology taping (KT) on dynamic balance, functional performance, and shuttlecock velocity in adolescent badminton players with scapular dyskinesis. This quasi-experimental pre–post study included 25 male badminton players aged 10–16 years with clinically diagnosed scapular dyskinesis. Participants were assessed using the Y Balance Test, Davis test, and shuttlecock velocity measurement before and after KT application. Scapular dyskinesis was identified using a standardized clinical assessment protocol. All participants served as their own control. This study used a paired t-test in SPSS 26 to analyze the data (p ≤ 0.05). effect sizes (Cohen’s) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were calculated to determine the magnitude and precision of changes.
Results demonstrated significant improvements in all variables following KT application. Y Balance Test scores, Davis test performance, and shuttlecock velocity all showed statistically significant changes (all p < 0.001), accompanied by large to very large effect sizes. Overall, kinesiology taping appears to improve functional performance and dynamic stability in adolescent badminton players with scapular dyskinesis, suggesting its potential as a non-invasive adjunct intervention to enhance neuromuscular efficiency and upper limb function.
