Body image is the mental representation that an individual forms of their body, influenced by multiple sociocultural and individual factors. Dance, due to its artistic and morphokinetic nature, contributes to the construction of body image. The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of a 24-session contemporary and modern dance intervention on body image in non-practicing adults. Methods: Data collection instruments included the Stunkard Figure Rating Scale, the BAS-2, and semi-structured interviews. Results: A total of 42 women participated. Quantitative results did not show statistically significant changes in body satisfaction or body appreciation. However, factors associated with body image were identified, such as negative body-related comments, dieting, and exposure to body ideals on social media. In contrast, qualitative results revealed changes, highlighting themes such as improved body awareness, the functional revaluation of the body, positive emotions associated with dance practice, the influence of social context, group cohesion, and the pedagogical approach to the body relationship. They also highlighted the evolution of the mirror from a potential risk factor to a tool in dance practice, the overcoming of initial barriers, insecurities, and bodily adaptation processes, as well as the development of new body identities. Conclusions: Dance may act as an indirect mechanism for long-term improvement of body image.
